Campaign Statuses

Overview

Every campaign moves through a series of statuses that reflect where it is in its lifecycle, from initial setup through completion. Understanding campaign statuses helps you know what actions are available at any given point.

Status behavior varies between SMS and Voice campaigns. Key differences are noted below.


Status Definitions

StatusDescription
DefinedA campaign has been created and saved, but has not yet been scheduled.
Campaign details are still fully editable. This is the starting status for all newly created campaigns.
ScheduledThe campaign has been scheduled and is queued.
For SMS campaigns, details are locked and only the send schedule for individual messages can be adjusted.
For Voice campaigns, settings and the scheduled start date/time can still be edited.
RunningThe campaign is actively sending messages or placing calls.
Results will begin populating on the Campaign Details page as activity occurs.
StoppedThe campaign was manually stopped before all activity was completed.
For SMS campaigns, unsent messages are canceled and the campaign can be restarted with a rebuilt schedule.
For Voice campaigns, remaining scheduled calls are marked as Cancelled and the campaign cannot be restarted.
Errored
(Voice only)
The campaign encountered an issue and could not complete normally.
Results are still viewable and additional error details are available via the campaign error page.
CompletedAll messages or calls have been processed. The campaign is no longer active.
Full results are available on the Campaign Details page.
ArchivedThe campaign has been archived and is hidden from the default Campaign Index view.
Any non-Running campaign can be archived. Archived campaigns are still accessible by filtering by Archived status.


Note: Archiving a campaign does not delete it.


Status Flow

SMS Campaigns

Defined → Scheduled → Running → Completed
                    ↘ Stopped → (Restarted) → Running

Voice Campaigns

Defined → Scheduled → Running → Completed
                    ↘ Stopped
                    → Errored

Any campaign that is not currently Running can be archived at any time.

Note: Voice campaigns that have been stopped cannot be restarted. A new campaign must be created.
