How to update line categorization
Determining the appropriate line categorization is an important step in ensuring that revocation (opt-out) processes are managed accurately.
Line categorizations and definitions
- Informational Messages
Purpose: To keep customers updated and informed about their service or account.
Trigger: Informational messaging is when a consumer gives their phone number to a business and asks to be contacted in the future.
Examples: Service alerts, account updates, appointment reminders. - Marketing/Promotional Messages
Purpose: To advertise, drive sales, increase brand awareness, or re-engage customers.
Trigger: Business-initiated, scheduled campaigns.
Examples: Sales announcements, newsletters, new product launches, special offers, abandoned cart reminders.
Key: Promotional content; requires explicit opt-in (double opt-in often recommended) for compliance. - Transactional Messages
Purpose: Only use this categorization for emergency exempt messages or a direct response to an inbound message.
If unsure of your line categorization, it is recommended to seek legal advice.
