SMS Message Content Redaction

This document outlines the process for configuring SMS message content redaction in your account. This feature allows for the automatic redaction of message content after a specified number of days, helping your organization meet data retention and compliance requirements.

Enabling Message Redaction

Redaction settings are available in two places depending on which interface you use.

In the Capacity UI:

  1. Navigate to SMS > Time Settings in your account settings.
  2. Locate the Message Redaction section.
  3. Toggle Redaction is enabled to turn the feature on.
  4. Enter the number of days after which message content should be redacted in the Days field (default is 30 days).
  5. Click Save Changes to apply.

In the Textel UI:

  1. Navigate to Manage Account.
  2. Locate the Redact Messages After section.
  3. Enter the number of days in the Days field and check the Enabled box.
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Note: Once redacted, message bodies and attachments cannot be recovered.

Redaction Process

Once enabled, the system will automatically redact message content older than the specified number of days. The redaction process occurs nightly and replaces message content with [redacted]. This includes:

  • Message bodies
  • Attachment URLs

Note: The original message records will remain in the database, but their content will be redacted.
