Article Spellcheck Using Google Chrome

Google Chrome offers built-in spell check to help you review and correct your spelling as you type into text fields across the web. This feature is flexible and can be turned on or off according to your preference, ensuring a smoother and more accurate typing experience.

Spell Check Options in Chrome

Chrome provides two types of spell check options:

1. Basic Spell Check

• How it works: Spell check is provided by Chrome or your operating system.
• Privacy: Text you enter is NOT sent to Google.
• Use case: Good for general use where privacy is a priority.

2. Enhanced Spell Check

• How it works: Utilizes Google Search’s advanced spelling algorithms.
• Privacy: Text you enter IS sent to Google for improved spelling suggestions.
• Use case: Ideal if you want more comprehensive spelling correction and don’t mind sharing text data with Google.

Note: In some operating systems, you can also maintain a custom dictionary for words specific to your work or environment.

How to Turn Spell Check On or Off in Chrome

Option 1: Settings

1. Open Chrome on your computer.
2. Click the More (three dots) icon in the top-right corner.
3. Go to Settings.
4. Select Languages.
5. Under the ‘Spell check’ section: Toggle Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages ON or OFF as desired.
6. Choose between Basic and Enhanced spell check as per your needs.

Option 2: Right-click on a Text Box

1. Open Chrome on your computer.
2. Click on the Search bar or any of the Text Box.
3. Right-click inside the text box.
4. From the context menu, hover over Spell check.
5. Choose between Basic and Enhanced spell check as per your need.

Tips

• For privacy-focused use, stick with the Basic spell check.
• Switch to Enhanced if you want better suggestions and don’t mind sending data to Google.
• Different devices may experience slight variations in how spell check is implemented, based on the provider.
